Health/ Insurance & Vet Care
Vaccinations: We are very careful about the types of vaccines we use. As such use only Non-Adjuvanted Vaccines to eliminate the risk of Adjuvant-induced Fibro Sarcomas. The brand and type we use is Nobivac Feline 1-HCP vaccine a modified live virus vaccine for protection against feline rhinotracheitis (feline herpes), calici and panleukopenia (feline distemper) viruses. It is given at 8, 12 and the 3rd is administered by your vet at 16 weeks. Then a booster 1yr after the 3rd shot. Rabies vaccines to be administered by your Vet at his discretion. This is what UC Davis Veterinary School has to say about Feline Core Vaccines. LINK
Felv (Feline Leukemia), and FIV (Feline Aids) is spread through a cats saliva and can only be spread by infected cats.
It is our opinion that the Felv vaccine is safe to give but the FIV vaccine is dangerous and not reliable.
*** No two vaccines and or Rabies shots are to be given to your Pumaridge cat at the same time! This is called "Bundling" and it stresses the immune system possibly predisposing it to FIP. Doing this will also VOID your health guarantee***

Cat Calming Spray
Another great thing to have before your kitten comes home is some Cat Calming Spray. The best one I have found is by Nature's Miracle. I like this better than the plug-ins because it can travel with you. Remember cats have twice as many Olfactory receptors as we do so a little goes along way. Spray the carrier while empty then give it a few minutes before putting the cat in it. If the cat starts sneezing then you put in too much. So far we have tried it successfully with two cats going from my home in Hemet Ca. to Las Vegas with only giving the carrier two quick sprays before leaving my house. This is awesome stuff!
This is a great idea for female kittens after getting spayed so they don't mess with stitches

*Pet Insurance*
The Siberian cat breed is a relatively new breed to the United States. The climate that they originally come from in Russia is extremely frigid so not a lot of diseases and parasites can survive in that type of climate. So that basically leaves them with a immune system that is still on the immature side since they have not been exposed to the typical things at their foundation level that your typical American bred Alley cat has. I highly recommend that all my kitten parents get full health insurance on their Purebred kitten. Insure your kitten from day 1 before there is ever any issues because Pet Insurance will not cover pre-existing conditions.
**Research the different companies and tell me which company best serves your needs so I can update this section.** ________________________________________________ Do your own research. Search Here>> Pet Insurance Review *FYI So far I really like Trupanion, Pumpkin and Lemonade Insurance. *My vet really likes Pumpkin insurance because it allows the owner to assign the payment to go directly to the vet instead of the owner getting reimbursed then having to pay the vet themselves. As an ethical breeder I test for everything that can possibly be a factor. However like I used to tell my puppy parents when I bred Rhodesian Ridgebacks for 10 years concerning O.F.A. testing for Hip Dysplasia; "Testing only tells us if the parent is affected on that day at that point in time. It doesn't tell us if it will happen some day down the road." This is why I do all the testing I can plus add in the health guarantee that I do. I am certainly not trying to scare anybody but when you are spending this kind of money on a new family member you want them covered and if you have health insurance why shouldn't they have it too. |

HEALTH
MALE URINARY BLOCKAGE Males can tend to be on the needy side with their love and devotion to their humans. This can sometimes lead to stress if their routines or environment goes thru rapid or frequent changes. IE: don't adopt a male cat then go on vacation soon afterward. In the male cat stress can present itself in the form of Urinary Blockages. If you are going to go on vacation at some point by all means do it BUT make sure you are leaving your cat with someone they feel comfortable with. Would you leave your human child with someone they never met before?? IF you have a male that is on the needy or nervous side learn what triggers his anxiety. It will make a huge difference if you ever have to take the cat to the vet for any mystery behavior or illness. Sadly I had a client (Anne) who's male (Pawter) went thru this. She had a nightmare of a vet that put the cat for $700 on RX food and medication to no avail. This vet wanted him on this regiment for life and it did no good. She went to another vet same thing. She finally had to take him to the emergency vet and $3,000 later he was unblocked. This wonderful client put in the hard work to find answers. She researched and found out that learning his triggers was a huge benefit. She also researched food. She asked me to share these links with all my clients so that they may benefit from her experience. Thank you so much Anne you are amazing!

siberian's ears
Siberian kittens LOVE to play and lay in their litter boxes. Crazy right?! Don't ask me why they do this; because I don't know why. However because they do before you take them to the vet you need to make sure that you clean their ears. If not the vet may look in the ears and decide that they have ear mites when in reality it is just litter box dirt. Then the vet will stick you with medicine to try to put in their ears and that can turn into a struggle at home.
Another Ear trait is that many Siberians have thin hair on their ears. All things being equal this is completely normal. Vets that are not experienced with Siberians assume that this is a early indicator of a Thyroid condition or even Ringworm. First of all; a 10 week old kitten can not have thyroid issues. They are just too young. Ringworm is a possibility however my vet checks for this at their check up before leaving my home so IF it were to be Ringworm I would know and keep the kitten until it was cleared up.
So with Siberians thin ear hair can be very misleading because if your cat has a favorite spot it likes to lay in and the hair on the ear gets rubbed wrong it can look like a bald spot on the ear. So make sure to smooth the hair out to determine if this is an actual bald spot or not.

FIP
Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a mostly fatal disease that affects cats. It is a mutation of Feline Enteric Corona Virus (FECV) - (Feline Corona Virus FCoV). Not to be confused with the COVID virus... However, its incidence rate is roughly 1 in 5,000 for households with one or two cats. Read more about FIP here.
HCM
We are a HCM Ultrasound Scanned Cattery. This is done every one to two years depending on the recommendations of our Veterinary Cardiologist.
All breeding cats to date have been found to be negative for HCM. This means that all our breeding cats have been Cardiac Ultrasound scanned for HCM. We are blessed that to date we have never had a Pumaridge breeder scan positive for HCM. *We research worldwide to try to find cats for our breeding program that have the absolute cleanest health histories. Even though we are religious about scanning our cats for HCM it can show up at any age unfortunately.
Cornell Veterinary University states that HCM is the most commonly diagnosed cardiac disease in cats. Click here for more info.
